Sledding

Madelyn went sledding for the first time Sunday, January 22nd.  Here are some cute photos and video. Check out Madelyn's snowpants! They were Juliana's but are 12 months so I taped the legs so I didn't have to bother with boots--She looks like she is missing her feet but I promise you she is not--her feet were just nice and warm.  We were surprised at how well Madelyn did in the cold weather. She even was smiling some especially when her dad would pull her.

Madelyn's first foods

Madelyn has tried her first solids foods!!  We are trying something a little different which is called by a cheesy term "Baby Led Weaning." The point is that the baby learns to feed themself so there's no puree stage.  The purpose is for the baby to determine how much they want to eat like they do when nursing.  Here are a bunch of fun photos of Madelyn exploring food. I don't think she's actually swallowed much of the food but she is learning about textures and flavors.  Breastmilk will remain to be her main source of food until a year.

1/14/12: First Food = Avocado

Video of her eating:

Ready?
She picked it up! Now what?
Into the mouth!
Not so sure.

Fingers covered in Avocado are good!
Other random eatings:

Trying Pear
Want to play a game? I'll drop it off the side and you pick it up!

Madelyn prefers to suck her thumb over eating. I am sure that will change.

Trying Mango!

Mango is SOUR!
New bib to keep her cleaner!

Trying Pumpkin

Half way to 1

Madelyn is 6 months old!  I can't believe that she is now closer to 1 than she is a newborn.  Her personality is coming out and it's looking like she is more like her daddy than her mommy. She's pretty quiet and just takes things in.  She doesn't talk much and still is harder to get a laugh out of for us but according to daycare, she has days when she just smiles and laughs at nothing.
  • She smiles at anyone who says hi. When I took her shopping, she was smiling at everyone and everyone always comments on her beautiful BIG EYES!
  • She has mastered sitting up although occasionally she'll fall over. She's not a big fan of tummy time now that she has a new viewpoint.
  • She reaches for everything!  We have to be careful now. I was trying to brush my teeth while holding her and she kept reaching up for my toothbrush.
  • She loves banging on anything especially the table or her wave drum.
  • We don't try to give her a pacifier anymore. She is a thumbsucker.  Sometimes, she even prefers her thumb to nursing but than she'll realize it doesn't have milk and latch back on.
  • She loves smiling at Leia (our dog) and Preta (our cat). She also likes following them around the room with her eyes.
  • She is very interested in our food. We can't hold her in our arms and eat or else she'll grab for our food.
  • She got her first ear infections (both ears) a few days before turning 6 months. We thought she had pink eye but it turns out she was so congested, it starting coming out of her eyes! Gross!
  • She is still napping with one arm out of the swaddle. We've tried napping a bit without the swaddle but she naps so much better with
  • And she loves her feet!  Either kicking them or holding on to them.  Silly girl!
  • No food yet. We planned to start on her 6th month birthday but since she was still on antibiotics, we decided to wait until the weekend. But I did make my breastfeeding goal of no formula or solid foods until 6 months! It was a lot of work but so worth it.

Random Cute Ones

Madelyn's becoming so much fun. Here are some cute ones.

We loved our bumbo seat but now Madelyn's moved on to her highchair.

Peek-a-boo. Who is it?
She loves taking baths with mommy.
Mohawk

She has really good balance.

I picked this one out because of the "hair". I knew she'd love it.

1st time with sippy cup--she made her "what is this" face.
Feel asleep at the table

I love my feet!
