Rub a Dub, Two Girls in a Tub

9/26/14 Brian and Madelyn Camping

Brian had wanted to take Madelyn camping for a month or two and it was finally going to be not cold or raining for the weekend.  He called up Blackwell Forest Preserve and discovered that all the camp sites were booked up for Saturday but there were some available Friday so in an afternoon he packed up their camping stuff and some food and they went camping!  Allison and I met them up there and helped set up the tent and ate dinner with them. It was a nice night although the mosquitoes were bad so we ate inside our tent :)

After Allison and I left them, Madelyn got in her pajamas and they went to watch the sunset. Madelyn loved having her own lantern and watching the sun go down. She did a great job sleeping in the tent and the next morning they enjoyed a short hike   Madelyn seemed to collect every rock available and I still feel like I am finding them all over the house!  It was a nice time and we can't wait to all do it again some time! After they packed up, they went to Fermilab where they got to see the buffalo and even a baby buffalo.

9/17/14 Allison's 8 months old

Allison is getting so big, I wish she would slow down. I miss my little snugly baby girl.

• She no longer likes having her diaper changed because she doesn't like being on her back
• She is a thumb sucker even though I didn't think she would be but on August 25 she really started to suck it instead of just putting it in her mouth.
• She now signals to be picked up by lifting her hands in the air.
• She loves to giggle at Madelyn
• She is finally swallowing food as I found carrots in her poop!
• She can spit out food really far.
• Shortly after she turned 7 months we tried having her sleep with one arm out for a week and she did great. Then we did two arms out for a week and she also did great. We were finally done with the swaddle for night sleeping.  Closer to 8 months, she no longer needed the swaddle for naps either!
• On September 1st, we found her sleeping on her tummy for the first time. She likes to sleep on her tummy now that she is not swaddled anymore.
• She is taking better naps on the weekends usually going down for a morning nap at 9 am and sleeping for 3 hours and then an afternoon nap and sleeping for 1.5 hours.
• Her first tooth popped through on August 31st (the same day we flew home from Omaha!)
• She loves to play with plastic hangers like her big sister did as a baby.
• She really can spit out food she doesn't want really far! Watch out!
• We finally decorated Allison's nursery by hanging up some art and her baby hand and food prints. I guess what they say about second children is correct.

9/6-9/8/14 Great Aunt Visit

My Aunt Jane came from Califorina to attend her 50th high school reunion and we were able to turn it into a small family reunion when my Aunt Nancy and Uncle Jim drove in from Iowa. It was their first time meeting Allison.  We went to dinner on Saturday to Luigi's House. We then had everyone to our house for dinner on Sunday. On Monday we all went to the Morton Arboretum where we rode the tram around the place and enjoyed the playground.  Madelyn thought it was so funny that my Aunt's name was Jane like her middle name :)

8/29-8/31/14 Allison's First Trip to Omaha

We flew to Omaha for Labor Day weekend so Brian's grandparents could meet Allison!  Allison and Madelyn were great on the flight there.  Allison played and slept and hardly cried. Madelyn was her usual airplane flying champ.  Friday we just hung out with Grandpa and Grandma. Madelyn was so excited to be able to sleep in a tent in Grandma and Grandpa's basement! Saturday we went to Great-grandma's 90th birthday party.  Sunday we also got to visit with the great-grandparents before we flew back. The flight back was a little rough because it was during Madelyn's nap time.  We had hoped to keep the girls separated but since the plane was so small lap children could not sit on the side with only one sit so I had to sit with Allison and Madelyn next to me.  Neither girl slept so  luckily the flight is short!
