3/17/14 Allison's 2nd month

Here's what Allison's been up to in her second month:
  • She started cooing a little - something Madelyn never did.
  • We got out her playmat and Madelyn so affectionately showed her how to touch the animals by grabbing her arm.  Allison was so good and didn't cry just let Madelyn grab her arm and move it around!
  • We've been doing tummy time and Allison is getting better. Madelyn likes to "help" her by pulling up on her head even though I've told her that Allison has to do it on her own to strengthen her neck.
  • Madelyn is very good at pulling Allison into her lap. It's cute how much Madelyn wants to hold her and how much Allison doesn't protest.
  • We've started wearing Allison a lot more. I love having her so close to me although it has also meant that Madelyn wants to be worn more too. Luckily she is good about waiting until we are done carrying Allison for her turn or sometimes Dad wears them both!
  • Allison went swimming for the first time and there were no tears!
  • She tries to flip out of our arms when we are holding her.  Brian was eating and holding her and almost dropped her because she just suddenly flung backwards.
  • She seems to sleep with her eyes open sometimes.
  • She prefers to be with mom over dad.
  • Her eyes are becoming lighter and more blue.
  • Madelyn likes to have Allison sit in her lap at music together and do the hand motions for Allison.
  • Allison loves staring at the black picture frames of Madelyn on the wall behind the couch.
  • She also loves the ceiling fan in our bedroom.
  • She enjoys the sound of the vacuum and hair dryer and likes her vibrating bouncy seat although Madelyn always says Allison doesn't want the vibrator on because SHE doesn't like it and turns it off.
  • Allison has some funny facial expressions. She winks a lot with her right eye and gives the Elvis lip.
  • She is getting harder to get to sleep and is losing the newborn cry.
  • She is smiling more but not a lot.
  • She loves sucking on her fists.
  • She had bad baby acne from 6-8 weeks.
  • She got her first runny nose :(

Where is Allison??

Sticking out the tongue!

She is not always happy for these photo shoots.

A little smile

She'd rather suck her fists than lift her head.

Madelyn showing Allison how to click her sticks and yes I was a little nervous with the sticks and Allison!

Transitions!

There are a lot of transitions happening at the Hartsell house.  Madelyn started sleeping in her big girl bed (instead of her toddler bed) all on her own last week. After a week of sleeping in it, we took down her toddler bed and turned it back into a crib and gave it to Allison.  Madelyn decided Friday, March 28 that she wanted to wear underwear to school.  I let her and so began our potty training. She's been doing great and has had very few accidents! Way to go Madelyn!

Allison started school on Monday, March 31st. She did okay but gave them a little trouble on her first bottle. After she realized mommy wasn't coming back for a little while, she drank her other two bottles with no problem. Thank goodness!

Since it was a beautiful day (almost 70 degrees!) and I had wanted to do something special with just Madelyn before going back to work, we headed to the zoo on Monday.  I wasn't excited about driving all the way to the zoo with Madelyn in underwear but she surprised me and made it with no accident even though she hadn't gone all morning. She surprised me again by going right away when we got to the zoo. I was grateful for the toddler size potties at the zoo.  At first she was scared of the animals and kept asking me where the other kids were so I was nervous that maybe the zoo wasn't the right place to take her alone but she soon returned to her normal self. We saw some bears (she loves pretending a bear is in our house) but she was happy they were far away.  She loved eating our picnic lunch outside.  She did think the fishies smelled though and kept saying "It stinks in here" and was happy to get out of there.

We then headed to the dolphin show which we both loved! She loved when two jumped up at once! After that I had to find a place to pump and was happy to learn that I could pump for FREE in the Hamill Family Play Zoo (normally you have to pay to get in there).  Of course halfway through pumping, Madelyn had to go potty so we went and then she couldn't go (the joys of potty training!). I did feel a little bad after I was done that Madelyn wanted to play inside since we didn't pay but she loved the face painting and did finally go potty a SECOND time at the zoo. After that we grabbed a milk shake and saw a few more animals before heading home. She didn't want to put a pull-up on for the way home (after begging for a diaper earlier when she had to go to the bathroom!) but I told her she has to wear a pull up for rest--she quickly fell asleep on the way home!

And the last transition is that I started back to work on Wednesday but luckily Allison has been kind to me and is sleeping through the night most nights.

Allison's first day!

Madelyn liked that there were TWO potties in the Family bathroom--one for her and one for me
